The short answer
An EFS GVM upgrade adds between 420 kg and 855 kg to your vehicle's legal maximum weight, depending on the model. Every kilogram of that increase is extra payload you can carry, because the vehicle's empty weight doesn't change.

Figures from EFS, October 2026. Standard GVM can vary by model and build.
A worked example
A D-Max dual cab with a factory GVM of 3100 kg weighs roughly 2000 kg empty, leaving about 1100 kg of payload. Add a bull bar and winch (around 90 kg), a canopy with drawers (around 250 kg), a fridge, water and gear (around 150 kg), two adults (160 kg) and a caravan ball weight of 250 kg, and you're carrying about 900 kg before the kids and the dog. The EFS 3650 kg upgrade adds 550 kg, which turns a setup that's right on the limit into one with room to spare.
Weigh your own vehicle loaded for a trip before deciding. Every build is different.
What else changes
- Your vehicle gets a new compliance plate showing the higher GVM
- The kit includes heavier springs and shocks matched to the new rating
- It's fitted by an EFS approved installer, which The Garage Miami is
- GCM (vehicle plus trailer) doesn't always rise with GVM, so check your towing at full load
